PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) Former Vice President Joe Biden’s Super Tuesday surge extended all the way to Maine, where he was declared the winner on Wednesday afternoon.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders trailed Biden by about 1%, even with 90% of precincts counted by Wednesday afternoon. Sanders was expecting a win in Maine, where he beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primary. Biden also had little ground game in Maine, making Sanders the favorite.

The race was called with 95% of precincts reporting around 2 p.m. Wednesday. By that time, Biden led Sanders by over 2,000 votes, securing 35% of the vote to Sanders’ 34%.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren walked away with 16% of the vote. Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who ended his campaign Wednesday following a poor showing Tuesday night, got 12%.
