“Blast Furnace” Heat Wave Headed to Maine

A heat wave is expected to spread to the Northeast after taking hold of the Southwest in recent days. It is projected to bring temperatures as high as 90 degrees in the coming week. 

AccuWeather meteorologist Joe Lundberg says Southern Mainers can expect warmer temperatures than usual and a potential thunderstorm as soon as Saturday. 

As the heat ramps up going into the weekend, Lundberg says Tuesday is the day to look out for. “I think Tuesday is a blast furnace,” said Lundberg. “It’s going to be in the 90s with brutal humidity.” He predicts a front will cool off the area either Wednesday or Thursday. 

While Lundberg notes the trend of precipitation and storms will likely continue through June, he said “the pattern may flatten out as we get towards the Fourth of July and maybe it’s not quite so active the second half of the summer.”
