Boat catches fire in South Portland


The Deputy Fire Chief tells our news partners at CBS 13 it happened at 148 Breakwater Drive.

The boat was out of the water next to the boat storage warehouse when it caught fire. It happened just before 7 p.m. Crews with the fire department noticed the thick black smoke billowing into the air. By the time they got on scene the 30 foot boat was up in flames.

The owner was working on the boat when it caught fire.

One fire fighter was taken to the hospital for an evaluation of a back injury. No other injuries were reported.

Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby boats.

The fire is under investigation.
