Maine State Police have launched an investigation after a body washed ashore in Washington County.

The Bangor Daily News reports the body was found Tuesday afternoon on a beach in Robbinston, which is south of Calais.

The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be conducted to try to identify it and determine a cause of death.

Police told the newspaper that there are no missing person cases in the area.
