A man’s body has been recovered from the Kennebec River amid a search for a missing Maine fisherman.

Maine Marine Patrol says a man’s body was found around 6 pm Wednesday on the shore of Woods Island.

The body was spotted by people on Crawford Island, who called 911 to report it. Woods Island is a short distance from Crawford Island in the Kennebec River.

Marine Patrol Officers then recovered the body and brought it to shore, where it was transferred to a local funeral home. From there, it was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office or examination and confirmation of identification.

Meanwhile, Marine Patrol have been searching the Kennebec River near Bath for 22-year-old Robert Stolt of Augusta since Sunday.

Stolt was fishing near Lines Island when he followed his dog in the water to save the dog but never made it back.

Other boaters were able to rescue the dog. The dog was taken by the local Animal Control Officer from the shore of Lines Island.

A female passenger on Stolt’s boat along with a second dog were rescued by other boaters Sunday and taken to shore where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
