Border patrol arrest 8 Mexican citizens entering US

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say they stopped a vehicle transporting several people who entered the U.S. from Canada and arrested eight people.

The Portland Press Herald reports the arrested individuals are Mexican citizens who are now facing federal immigration violations.

The agency’s press release did not include names, but said all eight were arrested July 23 and brought to the Houlton Border Patrol Station in Maine for processing.

Three people were charged with re-entry after removal and four were charged with illegal entry of the U.S. Officials say the eighth person was charged with alien smuggling and also determined to be in the U.S. illegally.

Border officials say all ell eight people would be transferred to ICE custody following criminal procedures.
