A Lewiston High School graduate who was in his freshman year at Bowdoin College died Saturday night from an allergic reaction.

The superintendent of Lewiston schools says Omar Osman had a severe nut allergy and died on the way to the hospital after an unexpected exposure.

A message from Bowdoin College said that Osman was on campus at the time of the exposure.

Efforts by paramedics and others to save the student were unsuccessful.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Lewiston High School was expected to release students early Tuesday to allow them to attend services for Osman.

Services were scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
