One driver had to be extricated after a crash involving two commercial trucks on the turnpike in Kittery.

Shannon Moss with the Maine Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 8 a.m. Thursday at Mile 1 on the turnpike. Police said 22-year-old Manuel Depina-Gonolves of Boston was behind the wheel of a box truck when he collided with a fully-loaded cement truck from behind.

Depina-Gonolves was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated. He suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the cement truck was not injured.

Police believe speed and following too closely were factors in the crash.

One southbound lane was closed to traffic while Troopers inspected the vehicles and documented the scene.
