AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Republican Bruce Poliquin has officially requested a recount in the second congressional district race.

Poliquin, the incumbent, was defeated by Democrat Jared Golden after ranked choice voting tabulations took place. The Secretary of State’s Office says the recount is expected to take four weeks.

Poliquin was down by about 3,500 votes after the ranked choice tally.

The Republican will be on the hook to cover the cost of a recount if the result doesn’t change.
