BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP)   Police in a Maine city are warning residents about a “widespread rabies epidemic” in the area.

The Portland Press Herald reports Brunswick police issued a warning Tuesday following the fourth confirmed case of rabies in the past three weeks.

A rabid fox attacked a man who was gardening last week. Another fox attacked a 95-year-old man on June 25. There were two other attacks involving a skunk and a fox that later tested positive for rabies.

There have been 33 confirmed cases of rabies in animals in the state so far this year.

Police are advising residents to vaccinate their pets and stay away from wildlife. Residents can also call police if they see aggressive animals.
