An elementary school in Brunswick is reopening Friday after being shut down Thursday over a malfunctioning fire alarm system.

The Brunswick School Department says it canceled classes at Harriet Beecher Stowe School after the Brunswick Fire Department determined the school should be operate without a fully functional system.

The department says replacement parts were ordered on an expedited basis and the issue was resolved by Thursday afternoon.

The Brunswick School Superintendent says the school was closed out of an abundance of caution before announcing its reopening for Friday.

Superintendent Phillip J. Potenziano apologized for the inconvenience and short notice and thanked families for their understanding, patience and support.

He said the district’s facilities team identified a malfunction with the school’s main Fire Alarm Panel during a routine maintenance check.
