Intruder dead after breaking into Brunswick housing shelter

BRUNSWICK, Maine (WGAN) Police say a man died of a gunshot wound after breaking into the Tedford Housing Shelter in Brunswick late Monday night.

Officers responded to one of the apartments at the shelter at about 10:22 p.m.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicates the intruder had a handgun, and there was a struggle for the weapon. The suspect was shot during the struggle and died at the scene.

Maine State Police on Tuesday say the intruder was 40-year-old Ali Fisher of Lisbon. He broke into the apartment where a 22-year-old female resident lives. The second man was visiting her in her apartment when Fisher broke in. He was also injured but treated and released from Maine Medical Center.

Police believe a dispute over the woman is what led to the shooting.

Police say the names of the other two people involved will not be released because no charges are expected.
