HALLOWELL, Maine (AP) — Business owners in the Maine city of Hallowell say they are concerned about an upcoming construction project that could hamper their businesses.
The state Department of Transportation’s reconstruction of Hallowell’s historic downtown ends sometime in October. The Kennebec Journal reports the business owners in the impacted area say they hope people continue to visit despite expected traffic and parking issues.
The department is beginning its reconstruction work in April, and contractors will work full-time throughout the work week until the expected completion date in October. Andrew Silsby, the CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank, says business owners should plan for a 25 percent loss in sales.
The DOT will host an open house at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hallowell City Hall to discuss final plans.
