AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Maine’s annual archery season for deer is beginning on one of the biggest weekends of the year for the state’s hunters.

The archery season starts Saturday and continues until Oct. 26. Saturday is also the final day of the first stretch of the moose hunting season. Moose hunting resumes on Oct. 8. The last of four moose hunting sessions ends on Nov. 24.

The bear hunt is also taking place in Maine in September and October. It’s legal to pursue bears with hunting dogs until Oct. 26. The season shuts down completely on Nov. 24.

Monday is another important day for Maine hunters as it marks the start of the fall wild turkey season.
