Another Maine school district is considering removing books about sexuality and gender identity from school libraries.

The books could be removed from Bonny Eagle Middle School and High School, both are part of Buxton-based Maine School Administrative District 6.

The books some parents want removed are called “Gender Queer: A Memoir” and “It’s Perfectly Normal.”

Parents for and against the ban spoke Monday night during a meeting of the district’s board of directors.

The Portland Press Herald reports that some parents said the books are pornographic.

Others said they’re a good resource for students struggling with their sexual identity.

The board will decide whether to remove the books during their meeting on Sept. 6.

Earlier this month, RSU 56 voted to ban “Gender Queer: A Memoir” from Dirigo High School in Dixfield after parents complained.
