Car Crashes Through Detour Barrier, Catches Fire in Standish

STANDISH, Maine (WGAN)  A Farmington woman is in the hospital after police say she crashed into through a construction barrier in Standish.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened after 10 p.m. Thursday night on Route 114.

Police say a detour was set up just before Mosley Road on Route 114 and that the driver, 69-year-old Myrtle Tripp, drove through the wooden barriers marking the detour and hit a large concrete barrier.

Police say the vehicle pushed the barrier about 100 feet further down the road before coming to a rest.  The car then caught fire.

Police say other motorists were able to get Tripp out of the car before it became fully engulfed in flames.

Tripp was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the crash is under investigation.
