The CAT ferry is slated to begin making stops in Bar Harbor again next year.

The ferry service which carried passengers between Nova Scotia and Portland was suspended in 2018. Before that, its route took it to Bar Harbor, but that ended in 2009.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the CAT was expected to return this year but the pandemic put the kibosh on those plans.

Harbormaster Chris Wharff told the paper the company recently inspected its pier in Bar Harbor and will try to do a practice run this fall before returning for the spring of 2022.

The company says re-establishing an international ferry route requires a considerable investment, and that a shortened season wouldn’t be enough to cover those costs.
