Cause of fatal fire in Rumford under investigation

RUMFORD, Maine (WGAN) A house fire in Rumford early Friday claimed the life of one resident.

According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, 57-year-old Edward Vidito lived at the home on Virgin St. with his wife. Crews responded to a fire there just before 4 a.m. Friday.

Vidito was found dead inside. His wife and their two dogs were able to make it out.

It marks the fourth fire fatality in the state so far this year. Investigators are looking into the cause.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.

There was no word on the extent of the damage.
