More than a dozen people were displaced late Tuesday night by a fire that damaged a Portland apartment building.

Investigators say the fire started on the first floor of the three-story apartment building on Hanover Street.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Nixon tells CBS 13 that the cause appears to be a ceiling fan that was left running in the bathroom.

He says working smoke detectors and early detection make a big difference in getting 15 residents of the building to safety.

No one was hurt, and the damage was limited to the apartment where the fire started.
