Police say a child riding his bike was struck by a pickup truck in Yarmouth last week.

According to CBS 13, the child was struck Friday afternoon on Main St. near North Yarmouth Academy.

Police say it happened after he rode his bike off the sidewalk and into the road so he could cross the street.

The child said he never saw the truck because his view was obstructed by a parked car.

The child was expected to be okay, and police say he avoided serious injury thanks to the helmet he was wearing.

Police urge parents to teach kids to be aware of their surroundings and only use marked intersections and crosswalks when crossing the street.
