Child hit by car in South Portland suffers non-life-threatening injuries

Police in South Portland say an 11-year-old girl was hit by a car while crossing the street.

Police say the girl was attempting to cross Broadway near Church Street around 8 a.m. Thursday. She was hit by a car and taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries to her leg and hip.

Police said there’s no crosswalk where the child was trying to cross.

The driver stopped and has not been cited. Speed did not appear to be a factor, but solar glare may have contributed to the crash.

That section of Broadway was closed while authorities responded. It was reopened by 8:40 a.m.
