Cianbro chairman indicted after cannon incident that sent football referee to hospital

The chairman of Cianbro Corp.’s board of directors has been indicted on several charges in connection with the firing of a small cannon at a Maine Maritime Academy football game.

The Bangor Daily News reports MMA alumnus Peter Vigue was indicted Thursday on charges of aggravated assault, reckless conduct with a firearm and discharging a firearm on a school property.

The 72-year-old Vigue brought the cannon to the game and fired it after MMA scored, a school tradition.

A wad of an unidentified substance was fired from the cannon and struck a referee in the head.

The ref was taken to the hospital but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
