Members of Maine’s congressional delegation offered their thoughts after the arraignment of former President Donald Trump in Manhattan on Tuesday.

Republican Senator Susan Collins called the indictment “unprecedented.” She says she’s already made it clear she will not back the former president for the Republican nomination in 2024.

Democratic Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said Tuesday was a “sad day for this country” but said it’s a sign of our democracy’s health that “even a former president can face justice for their misdeeds.”

Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges of falsifying business records.
