DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine (AP) A rural Maine hospital has completed a merger with a larger hospital group in the state.

Northern Light Health said Mayo Regional Hospital, a 25-bed hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, has become part of the organization.

The merger follows a decision by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to grant a certificate of need in January.

That paved the way for the merger to go forward. Northern Light includes some of the biggest hospitals in the state, such as Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and Mercy Hospital in Portland.
