SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Attorneys for the Portland Pipe Line Corp. have filed an appeal seeking to overturn a recent court decision that upheld a Maine city’s ordinance banning bulk loading of crude oil onto tankers.

The Portland Press Herald reports the company said Wednesday it still believes South Portland’s “Clear Skies” ordinance violates the Constitution concerning foreign and international trade.

The ordinance blocks the company from reversing the flow of its 236-mile underground pipeline. The pipeline has long been used for carrying foreign oil from harbor terminals in South Portland to Canadian refiners.

The city’s attorney said Wednesday he is disappointed with the company’s decision to appeal the district court’s ruling.

Mayor Linda Cohen says the city is looking forward to a quick resolution.
