An 89-year-old Connecticut man was killed when he was struck by a car on Route 1 in Thomaston.

The man was struck by the vehicle Wednesday around 6 p.m. in front of the Hampton Inn.

Police say the man went across the street to get ice cream and was struck by the vehicle on his way back to the hotel.

According to the Portland Press Herald, police said speed was not a factor and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

The man’s name was not immediatly released because officials were still working to notify the victim’s family.

This was the second pedestrian death in the midcoast area in less than a week.

A 70-year-old Rockland woman died on Oct. 27 after she was struck by a pickup truck at a crosswalk in Rockland.
