Following a 90-degree day on Sunday, July 6, Monday brings another hot day with temperatures in the high 80s. The high temperatures, which caused a heat advisory in Southern Maine, were brought by winds from the south.

According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Heather Zehr, “A big high-pressure area … is wandering off to the south and southeast now.” As that pressure area vacates, “south and southwest winds” make their way north.

The heat is not expected to continue throughout the week, with a storm front reaching Maine. “As this front is approaching, we are going to see temperatures back off,” said Zehr. She predicts high temperatures later in the week could dip into the 60s.

Looking ahead, Zehr predicts next week will include more stormy and cooler weather, saying, “We’re not completely done with this pattern where we’re going to have some rounds of wet weather coming through.” Earlier this year, Maine saw 12 consecutive weekends of rain.
