Corrections officials report inmate deaths at two Maine jails

Authorities are investigating two deaths at Maine prisons that happened the same week.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate at the Cumberland County Jail was found unresponsive in their cell Friday morning, with attempts by medical staff to revive them unsuccessful.

The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.

The individual’s name will be released at a later time.

Meanwhile, a Presque Isle man who was behind bars at the Maine State Prison in Warren died.

The Maine Department of Corrections says 87-year-old George Jaime died at the jail on Thursday.

He was convicted of murder in 2013 for the killing of his girlfriend Starlett Vining in 1998, whose body was never found.

According to the Bangor Daily News, witness testimony revealed that Jaime had stabbed Vining before dismembering her and burning the remains.
