Death of Orrington couple ruled murder suicide

Police say the death of a couple in Penobscot County was a murder suicide.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Swetts Pond Road in Orrington around 9 a.m. on Oct. 5.

The homeowners, Russell and Lois Swanson, both 89 years old, were found dead by a family member.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and Evidence Response Team were called in to investigate the deaths.

On Friday, Public Safety Information Officer Shannon Moss said the deaths were a result of a murder suicide. She said no additional information will be released.
