Crash Closes Section of Congress Street in Portland

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) Portland Police say a man assaulted his father and stole his vehicle before taking it on Congress Street and crashing into multiple vehicles on Wednesday afternoon.

Several victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash happened on the stretch of Congress between Mellen and State Streets, which was closed to traffic until around 5:30 Wednesday evening.

Police say the suspect was taken into custody and is being treated at the hospital.

No other information has been released.
