HARPSWELL, Maine (WGAN) Harpswell Police say a Baily Island man is recovering after getting trapped in his vehicle for ten hours on Tuesday night when he crashed into a house.

35-year-old Kevin O’Connor lost control of his vehicle around midnight Tuesday night on Harpswell Islands Road, or Route 24, and went off the road. Police say his car went airborne and crashed into the roof of a house before coming to rest against the side of the building. No one was in the home and O’Connor was the only person in the vehicle. His cell phone battery had also died.

O’Connor was trapped for ten hours before a passerby noticed the crash. Rescue crews pulled O’Connor out of the vehicle around 10am Wednesday. He was brought to Maine Medical Center and treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries including broken limbs and a head injury.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash, but believe that speed was a factor.
