Crews put out fire at Maine Correctional Center in Windham

Mutual aid from surrounding towns responded to a small fire at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham on Friday afternoon.

According to dispatchers, the fire broke out at the facility on Mallison Falls Road around 1:00 p.m. Seven ambulances were called to the area, and dispatchers said there were multiple patients.

Mutual aid from Westbrook, Standish, and Gorham was called in.

According to a statement from the Department of Corrections, the fire was contained to a small area in a housing pod on the male side of the facility and was quickly extinguished.

They said no staff or inmates were injured, but four people were hospitalized due to concerns of smoke inhalation.

An investigation is ongoing.
