Death Investigation Underway in Fort Kent

FORT KENT, Maine (WGAN)  State Police, assisted by the Fort Kent Police Department, are investigating the death of a man in that northern Maine community.

Police say about 12:30 Sunday afternoon Fort Kent Police responded to a 911 call at an apartment house at 485 West Main Street in Fort Kent.  Police say when they got there, they discovered a man dead in one of the apartments.

The State Police Major Crimes Unit was contacted and a team of Detectives arrived in Fort Kent during the afternoon and evening.

The dead man has been identified as 49-year-old DarenCharette who lived in one of the apartments.  Charette’s body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Detectives have been conducting interviews to determine the circumstances of the death and say there is no threat to the public.

A portion of the apartment building was secured during the night and Detectives and Evidence Response Technicians will be continuing their work today, according to police.
