Death of inmate at York County Jail under investigation

ALFRED, Maine (WGAN) The York County Sheriff’s Office says a Waterboro woman died at York County Jail.

Sheriff William King says 35-year-old Kimberly Pierce died at 5:12 a.m. Tuesday, the morning after being admitted to the jail. She was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders arrived. No details about the cause or circumstances of her death have been released.

Pierce was sentenced to 2 and a half years behind bars with all but 60 days suspended for OUI charges, driving to endanger, operating beyond license restrictions and violating conditions of release.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
