The York County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating a suspect in an attempted ATM robbery at an Arundel church.

The Beacon of Hope Community Church is a former bank, but an ATM remains on the property.

Deputies say a man approached a worker at the church around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and demanded money, then ran off after the worker told him he didn’t have the keys to the ATM.

Police say there were no weapons displayed.

The suspect obscured his face, but is described as white with an average build, about 6 feet tall wearing a black jogging suit with a white stripe and black gloves.

He took off on foot heading west on Route 111 or Alfred Road toward Jackson’s Corner.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York County Sheriff’s Office at 324-1113 or call the Sanford Regional Communications Center at 324-3644 and ask to speak with a deputy.
