Maine police are piecing together the timeline of suspected Lewiston gunman Robert Card’s actions before and after he killed 18 people and injured 13 others in a mass shooting Wednesday.
In a conference Saturday, Maine Department of Public Safety Michael Sauschuck confirmed Card’s body had been found inside a trailer full of recycled metal at the Maine Recycling Corporation in Lisbon.
Card had an employment relationship with the corporation at one point and knew the area well.
The area had been searched and cleared twice prior to finding Card’s body but police hadn’t been aware of an overflow parking lot containing 60 trailers nearby, where Card’s body was eventually discovered.
Sauschuck described the trailers as “18 wheeler” sized trailers full of recycled materials.
Two firearms were found with Card’s body at the scene and a rifle was left in Card’s vehicle, which had been abandoned at a boat launch near the facility.
While Sauschuck couldn’t say how long Card had been dead he told journalists that he appeared to be wearing the same sweatshirt he was seen in during the shootings.
A note by Card was left with one of his family members that gave them his bank and phone passwords. Sauschuck said they are currently working on getting access to Card’s phone and will give more information when it is available to the public.
“There’s going to be a lot of information there for you down the road,” said Sauschuck, who informed the public that a release of affidavits regarding Card would occur sometime in the future that would provide a better picture of Card and his actions.
