Two people escaped without serious injuries after a man drove off the road and struck a tree Saturday morning in Orient.

At approximately 7:15 Saturday morning, a Maine State Police responded to a crash when it was reported that a vehicle had driven off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver Robert Barnes, 27, became distracted by an ‘outside source’ according to police, drove off the roadway and struck a tree.

At the time of the crash Barnes had a 51-year-old passenger.

Both were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle had to be towed from the scene and a portion of Route 1 was closed for a short period of time while vehicle was removed.
