A Woolwich woman is dead after she was hit by a car on Middle Road in Dresden Friday night, according to our info partners at CBS13 News.

Russell Edmonds, 40, was walking on the roadway near the Indian Road intersection when she was hit by Matthew Larochelle, 44, of Richmond, who was driving northbound in a 2010 Honda CRV.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Larochelle was unable to see Edmonds, who was wearing dark colored clothing.

Middle Road was closed for nearly three hours during the investigation.

Police say alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the incident.

Deputies were in the area investigating a previous complaint of a pedestrian in the road nearly four miles away. Police say they checked the area and failed to locate the initial reported subject.

Further investigation and reconstruction of the collision is being conducted.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or a pedestrian on Middle Road between 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m, is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 882-7332.
