Driver accused of speeding, leading police on chase in Buxton hospitalized after striking tree

A driver who police say was speeding had to be Lifelighted to the hospital after crashing into a tree in Buxton.

According to CBS 13 news, police said an officer spotted an SUV going 71 mph in a 30 mph zone on Salmon Falls Road on Monday night. The officer said the driver sped up once he saw the cruiser’s lights turn on.

The officer lost the vehicle, but it was found a little while later after it hit a tree at Salmon Falls Road and Woodman Road.

The driver has not been identified, but police said he’s a 30-year-old from Gorham.

State police are investigating.
