PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Maine State Police have identified the driver who was being assisted by a detective before the officer was struck and killed by a wheel that had separated from a logging truck trailer.

Police said 26-year-old Robert John Anthony, of Clifton, spun out on Interstate 95 last week in Hampden.

Detective Ben Campbell responded to Anthony’s vehicle when he was struck by the wheel.

A funeral service is scheduled for Campbell at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. As of Sunday, representatives from 18 other state police and highway patrol agencies planned to attend, along with the royal Canadian Mounted Police.
