SIDNEY, Maine (AP) – Maine State Police say an 18-year-old driver has died in a crash in a rainstorm on Interstate 95 in Sidney.

Witnesses said the sport utility vehicle driven by Nicholas Caron, of Bangor, was traveling north on Friday when it went off the road into a grassy median and side-swiped a tree.

Caron was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle sustain massive damage to the passenger side and top, and both airbags deployed. The crash is under investigation.
