A driver was killed on the Maine Turnpike when a tire detached from a truck and hit them.

Maine State Police say a GMC Sierra was towing a camping trailer on I-95 northbound near the Gray-Cumberland line around 11:30 a.m. Monday. They said the driver’s side rear tire detached, hitting a Mercedes that was traveling on the southbound side. The driver of the Mercedes, 49-year-old Justin Nsenga of Old Orchard Beach, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old man from Quebec, and his four passengers were not hurt.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact Maine State Police.

While investigating, troopers say a second crash occurred on I-95 south when a 31-year-old South Paris woman on a motorcycle lost control and skidded before coming to rest in the roadway. She was taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
