Driver killed after electric vehicle crash creates “significant hazards” in Naples

One person was killed in a fiery crash in Naples Thursday morning.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash happened at 752 Harrison Road, or Route 35, around 10:40 a.m. Thursday.

They said a 2024 Tesla electric vehicle driven by 33-year-old Sergi Kolesnick of Harrison struck a tree at high speed, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Kolesnick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said several vehicle components became dislodged, creating a debris field of batteries and several spot fires.

Fire officials were at the scene for hours, trying to prevent the flames from spreading to the woods and a nearby home.

Route 35 between the southern end of Lewis Road in Naples and the northern end of Lewis Road in Harrison was expected to remain closed to traffic for several hours.
