Eight people were charged with drug-related crimes during a sweep by law enforcement in Western Maine.
The sweep on Friday afternoon was intended to target hotspots in the region associated with high levels of crime. The operation involved members of local, state and federal law enforcement.
Eight people from Rumford, Mexico and Wilton were either issued summonses or arrested for drug crimes involving meth, fentanyl, and prescription drugs.
Rumford police say one of the people charged, 44-year-old Lona Judd of Rumford, had an overdosing male in her car when police pulled her over. Police revived him with Narcan after he became unconscious. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
In addition to Judd, police also charged:
- 30-year-old Rashaud Lavoie of Rumford
- 41-year-old Daniel Blair of South Rumford
- 23-year-old Zachary Boutilier
- 43-year-old Jeremy Abbott of Mexico
- 37-year-old Christopher Durant of Mexico
- 34-year-old Nicole Allen of Wilton
- 53-year-old David Cavanaugh of Rumford
“Friday’s enforcement operation with Rumford PD working in partnership with the FBI’s Southern Maine Gang Task Force, Mexico Police, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and other law enforcement agencies is one example how I intend to do our part effectively and efficiently to combat the drug problem, which fuels violent crime and property crimes in our community,” said Rumford Police Chief Tony Milligan.
