Etna Man Arrested for Involvement in Fatal Crash

ETNA, Maine (WGAN)  The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man in connection with a fatal crash in Etna over the summer.

The sheriff’s office says 32-year-old Richard Lupo II was arrested and charged with manslaughter and aggravated driving to endanger on Monday.  The charges are connected to a crash on Rt 2 in Etna on Aug. 4.

The sheriff’s office says their investigation revealed Lupo was driving on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed when he collided head on with 73-year-old Debra Calderwood.  She died instantly in the crash.

Police say the case will be presented to the Penobscot County Grand Jury in the near future, where further charges are likely.

Lupo was taken to Penobscot County Jail.  Bail was set at $50,000 cash.
