A 9 p.m. curfew for Maine businesses has been extended, as the state continues to see rising numbers of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations.

On Friday, Governor Janet Mills’ administration announced the curfew would extend through Sunday, January 3rd.

Her administration says the curfew is “aimed at limiting activities that lead to COVID-19 transmission, amid a sustained and dangerous increase in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and positivity rates in the State of Maine.”

The curfew, originally set to expire this Sunday, applies to outdoor and indoor amusement venues, movie theaters, performing arts venues, casinos, and businesses that provide seated food and drink service, including social clubs, restaurants, and bars and tasting rooms currently open for outdoor service.

Takeout and delivery services are still allowed after 9 p.m.
