Investigators say butane caused blast at Auburn home

AUBURN, Maine (WGAN) An explosion at a home in Auburn sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries Sunday night.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss says a 35-year-old man suffered second and third degree burns in the incident on Broadview Avenue, but is expected to survive.

The fire chief says there were four other people in the home when it happened, including at least one child, but they were not injured.

The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office determined the blast was a result of using butane to extract THC from marijuana.

The explosion caused significant structural damage, making the home uninhabitable.

An investigation is ongoing.
