Explosions, fire reported at Chasse Marine in Damariscotta

Crews responded to a large fire at a boat storage facility in Damariscotta late Friday morning.

The fire was reported at Chasse Marine Company on Main Street, where witnesses reported at least two explosions before heavy smoke could be seen pouring from the building.

One man suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Maine Health-Miles Memorial Hospital.

Investigators say the fire was accidental and may have been caused by a spark from a worker who was grinding outside or lithium-ion batteries that were in the area of the fire’s origin.

The building was insured.
