The Maine Fall Foliage Report released Thursday shows a high level of color change in Northern Maine.
Color change in Central Maine in Moderate, while it’s Low in Southern Maine, where Peak foliage typically doesn’t occur until mid to late October.
The report says the lack of rain has played a part in accelerating the progression of the color across Maine, which can signal a shorter foliage season.
“Don’t let that stop you from following the leaves this upcoming weekend with all the outdoor activities Maine has to offer. Be mindful of the potential impact of the approaching noreaster, especially along the coast,” said fall foliage spokesperson Gale Ross.
Typically, northern Maine reaches peak conditions between the last week of September and the first week of October. Color change moves from north to south, with peak conditions for the rest of the state expected by mid-October.
The new report is also promoting fall events this weekend, including the Common Ground Country Fair in Unity and the Pemaquid Oyster Festival in Boothbay Harbor.
