Fatal hit-and-run in Winter Harbor ruled homicide; nationwide search for suspect underway

The hit-and-run death of a woman in Acadia National Park has been ruled a homicide, and the search for her boyfriend continues.

35-year-old Nicole Mokeme of South Portland was killed in the hit-and-run at the Schoodic Education and Research Center in Winter Harbor. It happened sometime between the night of Saturday, June 18 and the early morning hours of Sunday, June 19.

Maine State Police say a nationwide search for 35-year-old Raymond Lester of Portland is ongoing. He has an active arrest warrant for murder.

Police are asking the public to look out for his vehicle, a 2016 Black BMW X3 SUV bearing Maine Registration 5614WM. It may have damage to the front-end or undercarriage.

Anyone with information about Lester’s whereabouts is being asked to contact Maine State Police.
